I don’t post to social media often, but I want to be clear where I stand (if you know me IRL, you probably already know my opinion based on my/my family's experiences with Racism & Law Enforcement.) 1. I support Black Lives Matter 100%. They and everyone participating in the protests has made greater change to this system then anything I’ve seen in my lifetime. And that specifically includes the supposed improvements after the Rodney King beating trial, the L.A. riots and the Rampart scandal.

2. Police Brutality, particularly against People of Color is CLEARLY a problem in this country. From the disgusting execution of George Floyd to the INSANE circumstances of Breonna Taylor’s murder and the countless other cases preceding them, this should be obvious! But if it wasn’t before, it has been demonstrated clearly and repeatedly across the country during these protests. When cops from COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PRECINCTS in COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STATES, REACT WITH THE SAME SOCIOPATHIC BRUTALITY, IT'S A PROVEN SYSTEMIC PROBLEM. The added “Blue Wall of Silence” only makes it worse.

If law enforcement can’t be trusted to abide by the law and order they are supposed to uphold, the system is broken. And after hearing the same old song and dance for decades (just in my lifetime), it's time to try new solutions, including divesting from the police and putting that money toward the community specialized services that actually de-escalate situations before they turn deadly and don’t promote/reward a “warrior cop” mentality. Not every situation requires a SWAT team.

3. Racial Hatred & Violence is a growing sickness in this country, from random verbal harassment, to mass shootings such as in Charleston and most recently El Paso, to organized networks of White Supremacist groups seeking to escalate violence at protests, run down protestors, and commit terrorist acts like bombings and shootings. These ideologies are also worming their way into law enforcement - and it needs to be seen as a terroristic threat.
We're finally confronting these realities. Things might actually be getting better. It's going to be a fight, but it's WELL worth it.

A couple of weeks ago I started arriving home just in time to catch the Sunset as I stepped inside the house. They've been beautiful lately and when I watch them, I feel immense gratitude and appreciation. I always snap a photo.

It's a silly thing, but I spent a long time surrounded by concrete and powerlines, and though they hold their own beauty, I was always struggling to get a view of the horizon. In many ways.

Somehow, this bizarre journey through existence has led me to a place where I can watch a colossal masterpiece of color, form and light take shape in front of me, almost every evening. Like I said, it's a silly thing, but it means a lot to me. These days, I'm grateful for so much.

Jumping in on #VHSeptember Day 12: Warrior Wednesday! "Fire and Ice" - Not Game of Thrones, but the animated Fantasy film from Ralph Bakshi and Frank Frazetta.
I enjoyed this one more than Bakshi's Wizards, plenty of fun sword and sorcery stuff and the lead reminds me of Ka-Zar. Kinda.

Runners up hanging out in the background - Conan the Destroyer and GOR.

R.I.P. Rutger Hauer, He added the most poignant line of that monologue himself... making it iconic, and (to me) the finest example in sci-fi film of artificial life understanding and embracing humanity & mortality.

In his other work, he could be brilliantly brutal and a joy to watch in horror and action. Including my favorite performance - John Ryder in The Hitcher.

Also, find Blind Fury and Hobo with a Shotgun too, because damn.

It's July 3rd - Happy Return of the Living Dead Day! ROTLD is one of my favorite films - A completely original take on zombies, awesome 80's punks and makeup FX, my favorite VHS box art, a killer soundtrack, great humor and of course - @linneaquigley ! What's not to love?

I'm always on the lookout for ROTLD stuff to add to my collection... here are a couple things I was excited to picked up at conventions -
Uneeda Video shirt from @cavitycolors and a theatre poster with the soundtrack listing on a grave marker at the bottom.

Happy Alien Day Xenodorks!
40 years old and still looking fresh as a facehugger.

Alien was a staple of 80's cable and I think the first really frightening Sci-Fi film I'd ever seen. It's the reason I ran screaming the first time I saw a horseshoe crab.

To this day I'm impressed by how this movie managed to sync so many Sci-Fi/Horror elements, and have them work together effortlessly:
Space truckers, Derelict ships, unfathomable alien culture, Giger's terrifying creature design, murderous androids, corporate fuckery, and that gloriously dated 80's future tech.
